Physical health, fitness and wellbeing have been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember.

With over 12 years’ experience as a fitness professional in York and the surrounding area I set up Adventure Fitness with the goal of providing physical health training to people of all ages and abilities, from elite athletes training for specific events to over-70s who have never trained before.

I believe that health and fitness is a truly personal journey and each person will have to run a different path to achieve their desired goal. My role is to help you with this journey.

There are three essential elements of fitness:

When all the elements are in balance we are able to live well, train well, feel well.

The Fitness-Health Balance

Good overall health requires proper balancing of the nervous, muscular, skeletal, circulatory, digestive, lymphatic, hormonal and all the other systems. With this in balance comes optimal health.

Fatigue, injury, allergies, as well as asthma or frequent colds indicate an imbalance of health, often due to neglecting your health and pushing your fitness! Any of these can be a symptom of an imbalance, which is often considered normal but in fact is not, and should be addressed. There are many people who are fit but unhealthy and therefore have problems on a variety of physical, chemical and mental levels and are therefore unable to reach their full potential.

Both states of fitness and health should be balanced with each other. Injuries, sickness and fatigue indicate an imbalance between fitness and health.

My role is to work with you across all three elements to help you achieve a positive state of health and wellbeing. Whatever the initial point of contact, whether you aim is improved fitness and health, better nutrition, rehab after injury or massage, the starting point is always a holistic consultation and assessment process to enable us to understand your body, your current fitness and medical history, what you eat and when, and your injury history. We will complete a set of full body biometrics to accurately measure your body fat %, water %, muscle % and tone, and we will establish what your goals are and how we can achieve them.

Following the initial consultation we will understand your physical limitations and strengths as well as your goals and we will use all of this information to create your individual fitness, rehab or lifestyle programme.

More than just medicine
To ensure all the three elements of fitness are fully covered for all my clients I work directly with a network of close collaborators including a consultant gastroenterologist, a consultant cardiologist, a physiotherapist, a dietician and a psychologist. Between us we provide a fully integrated service to our patients and clients with a range of wellness programmes and the ability to cross refer clients/patients between the appropriate specialists. Taking  the  Adventure  Further

I love to be outdoors, whether it’s a workout in the back garden (helped by the dog, who treats it as a game I am putting on entirely for his benefit) or a three-day wild camping expedition in the Far North of Scotland.
